Adham Khan, the son of Emperor Akbar’s wet nurse and therefore his foster brother, was an officer in the king’s army. He was executed for murdering another general, considered to be one of Akbar’s favourites. Both Adham Khan and his mother were buried in the tomb before a British officer had the graves removed to set up his own residence at the place. The grave of Adham Khan was later restored but that of his mother never found its way back here.

The first Mughal tomb in India, Adham Khan's tomb is located near Mehrauli Bus Terminus. This monument is a famous meet up and hangout place in Mehrauli and is easily visible from the road as it is based on a raise plinth. There is no entry ticket to enter the monument nad can be visited during any hour of the day. The monument is dedicated to Akbar's foster brother, Adham Khan and his mother Maham Anga. Though only one grave is present today which belongs to Adham Khan. The monument is octagonal which is Lodhi architecture feature. It was built octagonal so that he could known as traitor, since Mughals considered Lodhis traitor, enemies and Adham Khan betrayed Akbar.

This is a not-so-well-maintained monument of the Mughal era which doesn't have any entry fee or pass.As a matter of fact it's like a neighborhood park for the people around here. They just come and sit on those ancient steps and verandahs and have a nice little chat after tea. For outsiders it's a monument -a symbol of a bygone era, for the locals it's as much a public space as a bus stand. Because of this there's a lot of people just hanging around talking, eating, children playing cricket(not exaggerating) around here. We came upon this place accidentally while we were walking after eating from pahalwan's dhabha to the qutub complex. It's a place you could take a little rest, enjoying the architecture as well as the life around.(just wishing such awesome Mughal architecture was part of your daily life!)

Beautiful and unique structure. Buildings were not so usual in octagonal shape during mughal era. But this one is. It is also said that Akbar considered him a traitor and an octagonal tomb is supposed to be of traitors. After a long neglect and destruction the place has been restored and now protected. There is no entry ticket as of now to this place.

Adham Khan was general of Akbar. He was killed on the orders of Akbar as Adham khan killed one of Akbar's finance minister who was close to him. Adham khan was thrown two times from walls of fort and his tomb is build by Akbar in Mehrauli. Tomb is located right in front of DTC bus terminal. Arcologic survey of India is not paying any attention to it. The Monument has lost its charm. It is a spare property now to the children to play gully cricket. If you have intrest in history you should visit it once.

Located on a citadel close to the Qutub Minar is this tomb built by Mughal Emperor Akbar to house the grave of his foster brother Adham Khan and his foster mother Maham Anga, who died soon after the execution of Adham by Akbar. One of the first Mughal mausoleum's to have been built, this tomb has more Central Asian elements than the finer Mughal ones which came on later. Though it's built on a very big scale there are harly any decorative elements on the exterior except for some Hindu Shatkone stars. The interiors are made light by the presence of many windows and ventilators which allow inna lot of light and air. This mausoleum was converted into a residence by an officer of the East India Company and the graves of Adham Khan and Maham Anga were relocated outside of the building. After a while the building was even used as a post office but Lord Curzon at the beginning of the 20th century restored it and moved back Adham Khan's grave but the remains of Maham Manga were lost forever. No entry fee and a few steps to enter but the building is used as a waiting area for those waiting to catch a bus and locals boys to play cricket. At least no one is desecrating the grave or the interiors of the building but I hope it was better protected.

The tomb was built in 1562, and lies to the north of the Qutub Minar, Mehrauli, Delhi, immediately before one reaches the town of Mehrauli,[1] it is now a protected monument by Archaeological Survey of India.[2] The tomb is opposite Mehrauli bus terminus and many passengers use it as a place to wait. This area this bad because isn't cleaning.

Pathetic maintenance. For such historically important monuments standing so close to the beautifully maintained Qutub complex, it is difficult to understand the lack of upkeep.
