★ ★ ★ ★ ★ When visiting Qutb Minar, there are several other interesting attractions that you can see within the Qutb Complex, including the Alai Darwaza - the main gateway into the complex built between 1296 and 1316AD, making it one of the very oldest remaining ancient gateways to remain standing in Delhi.
Alai Darwaza is a domed gateway, providing entrance into the southern side of the Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque, which is now in ruins. The gateway building was constructed with red sandstone, inlaid with white marble and elaborately decorated with carving and inscriptions. The building is noted for the splendid use of symmetry in its design.
Interestingly, it seems Alai Darwaza was the first of four large gates that Alla-Ud-Din Khilji intended to make for the city. Unfortunately, he died after its construction and before beginning work on the other three gates. Future rulers must not have shared his vision for the city as the remaining three gateways were never built, leaving Alai Darwaza on its own.
Overall, Alai Darwaza is a nice building, worthy of spending some time looking around. Its one of several interesting attractions at the Qutb Minar Complex along with the mosque, Imam Zamin's Tomb, the minaret - Alai Minar and the fascinating Qutab Minar structure.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Compared to the Alai Minar the Alai Darwaza is a marvelous piece or architecture and stone carvings most which are verses from Arabic that no one from India understands, what a waste of time and efforts.
The entry to the Alai Drawaza or gate is included in the entry for the Qutub Minar complex and note that the ticketing is now cashless meaning you should carry an android device with a apps like PayTM or GPay to make the payment. The parking for the monument is spacious, cheap, and accessible. Also make sure to retain the e-ticket as a PDF or a screencapture since it is required at the time of exit as well.
The Darrwaza or the gate is magnificent square dome with carvings in Indo-Islamic that simply mean existing Hindu carving remodeled with Arabic style or carvings. It appears a bit off that some arches of the same dome are circular, other are pointed while some more are flower shaped. Nevertheless they are a treat to the eyes. The pillars of the corridor that form a contiguous part of the gate belong to a Hindu temple.
Although the various monuments in the Qutub Minar Complex are scattered and built in separate time periods, the Alai gate forms an inseparable part of the primary Silhouette.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ala'i Darwaza (English: Gate of Alauddin) is the southern gateway of the Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque in Qutb complex, Mehrauli, Delhi, India. Built by Sultan Alauddin Khalji in 1311 and made of red sandstone, it is a square domed gatehouse with arched entrances and houses a single chamber.
It has a special significance in Indo-Islamic architecture as the first Indian monument to be built using Islamic methods of construction and ornamentation and is a World Heritage Site.

• It is the main gateway from the southern side of the Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque.
• It was built by the second Khilji Sultan of Delhi, Ala-ud-din Khilji in 1311 AD.

Since it has a historical significance and said to be the doorway or main entrance to Qutub Minar corridor, the preservation of this monument becomes of high priority.
