It was established in 1916 as the South Suburban College,[1] under the stewardship of educationist Sir Ashutosh Mukherjee, who was the then vice-chancellorof the University of Calcutta. After the death of Sir Mukherjee, the college was renamed as Asutosh College in 1924.[1] The principal of the college is Dipak Kumar Kar.

This building is specifically for Postgraduate departments and seminars.This is located at 5minutes walking distance from Purna bus stoppage and 10minutes walking distance from both Jatin Das Park metro station and Netaji Bhavan metro station.In this building,classrooms are mainly smart classrooms with projectors,laptop etc. This building has well developed lab facilities specially for lab subjects like Zoology. The building is completely under CCTV inspection.
