Barrackpore (Station Code: BP) is a railway station in North 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal, which serves the city of Barrackpore. It lies on the Sealdah-Ranaghat Line and is part of the Kolkata Suburban Railway system and is under the jurisdiction of Eastern Railway. The Sealdah-Kusthia line of the Eastern Bengal Railway was opened to railway traffic in the year 1862. Eastern Bengal Railway used to work only on the eastern side of the Hooghly River. Barrackpore has been serviced by rail since 1862. There used to be a branch line originating from Barrackpore station (code : BPPS) that served the Barrackpore Cantonment Area. Barrackpore had a race course behind the criminal court (far away from the station) and a special single rail track took steam engine-driven trains there, carrying British passengers who would attend the race. The line has been depreciated since. It takes about 35–40 minutes by suburban train to reach Barrackpore from Sealdah. As they are located in a suburban region of Kolkata, most municipalities of Barrackpore are connected by local train with Kolkata. The Sealdah-Ranaghat Line runs through this sub-division and connects to Bongaon, Dankuni, Howrah, Burdwan, and Bandel. It is part of the Kolkata Suburban Railway system. The Circular and Metro Railways of Kolkata also offer an accessible means of transit to and from the sub-division.

The Barrackpore Railway Station is an archaic station which amuses every commuters for it's grandeur architecture. Although the original British architectural designed well shaded Railway Station has remained intact but a few portions of the station has been extended in order to facilitate the accommodation of passengers as well as long express trains standing on hault, as Barrackpore Railway Station is a very important station in the Sealdhah-Ranaghat suburban railway line. So, the extended Railway platform located on Platform number 1 , is a very long platform which has been specially designated for long distance express trains. It's a very well shaded extended station with all the railway amenities facilitated in it. There is also a pedestrial railway bridge which is much big as compared to the other pedestrial bridges located among the station. It's also a quite opted place for morning and evening jogging and carrying suitable exercises. The atmosphere remains calm and serene. Therefore the extended platform receives worthy of appreciation and it also stands proudly as one of the longest platform in the Sealdhah-Ranaghat suburban railway line. Thank you.

This railway station has a rich historical background. It is nicely decorated. Very important railway station. Many express trains halt here. It is also popular with morning walkers. Old people use to sit and relax on the benches in the evening. Tea centres and food stalls are very good. It provides a nice view from it's overbridges. As a resident of Barrackpore I am proud of this station.

Clean, enough platforms but less express train in sealdah bandel division. Eastern railway should increase long distance train and should add a stoppage to this heritage station

Place is very big. Outside there is autos and totos always ready. The station gets kind of confusing sometimes though. There is platform number 1 and 1A. So you need hear the announcements clearly and attentively.
