As a Real Estate professional I pride myself on taking care of my people after the closing. On September 10, 2017 Hurricane Irma made landfall in Florida covering the entire state causing more than 6 Million people to evacuate. The ENTIRE state was affected. Upon returning and once power was restored, I contacted all of my clients that I knew had a Fannie Mae backed loan. I forwarded the announcement from Fannie Mae explaining the 90 day Disaster Forbearance that would automatically be placed on all Fannie Mae backed mortgage loans in the "Disaster" area. I suggested that everyone call their lender and confirm the process with the knowledge that their payments would resume in December. Everyone was able to confirm with their prospective lender that this disaster plan had been placed on their account ACCEPT one! This one client was given the run around from her first phone call until today. She was immediately transferred to the Mortgage Retention Dept. After speaking to their "specialist" who repeatedly said there was no such 90 day Forbearance and she had 3 options. First to pay as usual, (because this could care less to what damage was done to her home, that her family was safe or that she had no electric), second, sign a 'Deed in Lieu" or go into foreclosure, or third, accept a 6 months forbearance, and they would review her mortgage at the end in March. She said over and over, "I just want what was offered by Fannie Mae, we just need a couple of months to get back on our feet". Keep in mind ALL CALLS ARE RECORDED FOR QUALITY AND TRAINING PURPOSES. She opted for the third option as her husband's company was also affected by the Hurricane and were not able to reopen immediately. Weeks later a packet came and they were asked to sign without any notary, so it really is not a legal document. She was also REQUIRED to make partial payments DURING the forbearance which she has no idea were those payments were applied. BUT to make these partial payments she had to call in because SUNTRUST LOCKED HER OUT OF HER ACCOUNT! NO ACCESS, NO WAY TO LOOK AT ANYTHING ON HER ACCOUNT, NOTHING. As she made numerous calls attempting to get out of this forbearance, she NEVER TALKED TO THE PERSON WHO WAS SUPPOSE TO HANDLE HER FILE< NEVER GOT A CALL BACK AFTER 12 ATTEMPTS to reach her and 12 voice messages she left!
