★ ★ ★ ★ ★ (Visited in February 2022) - Forged indigenously in 16th Century, the legendary Dal Madal Cannon / Bishnupur Kaman stands proud and perfect and has protected Bishnupur from Afghan Pathans & Maratha Bagirs. There's a legend that Lord Shri Krishna himself viz Madan Mohan fires the cannon upon the invaders. Celebratory firing during Durga Navaratri was also performed.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Dalmadal Kaman is a huge ancient cannon that speaks volumes about the rich history of Bishnupur. Presently this cannon is kept protected by the Archeological Survey of India inside a grilled enclosure. You can explore this site during your trip to the highly popular Chhinnamasta Temple, which is situated exactly adjacent to this cannon. There is no entry fee required to visit this place. If you are wondering about the meaning of the word "Dalmadal", it means "Destruction of Enemy". I would recommend everyone to visit this spectacular insignia of history, while touring Bishnupur. ??

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This huge cannon is the example of bravery, spirit & artisan of Malla Kings ruling over the place. This iron made cannon build in 16th century to combat with external invaders at a time when there was no advanced way to extract metal from iron ore. The cannon is 3.8 Mtr long & more than 12 MT in weight and made with a cost of more than Rs. 1.25 lacs at that time.
There is a myth that during attack of Maratha warriors in 17th century, lord Madan Mohan, the god worshipped by the Malla Kings, himself fought by this cannon to save the the city.
Presently the canon is kept at a square shaped courtyard within the city locality in between Rasmancha & Jor-Mandir Group of Temples. The place is maintained by ASI.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ At that time Bishnupur was the kingdom of the heroic Malla kings. In the eighteenth century a great war was going on in Bengal. It is said that during a bargi attack, the army of the Mallarajas was retreating in the face of the attackers. When the defeat of Mallaraja Gopal Singhdev is certain, the king is worshiping in the temple relying on God. At that time he learns that God Himself has come out of Madan Mohan's temple and is firing cannons at the Bargis. And hearing that God is fighting for them, the morale of Mallaraja's soldiers increased. When they returned, they fought so valiantly that the Bargis, led by Bhaskar Rao, were forced to retreat. Since then, the Dalmadal cannon has been a symbol of heroism in Bengal. The name of this cannon is 'Dal Mardan'. That is to say, the cannon that crushes or destroys the group of squares.
