Durgapur is the preferred gateway to the districts of Bankura, Birbhum (Bolpur, Rampurhat, Suri), and Purulia. NH 19 (old numbering: NH 2) passes through the city jurisdiction and SH 9 originates from Muchipara in the city. NH 14 (old numbering NH 60) passes through the north-western suburb of Pandabeswar and finally passes through Raniganj and heads away towards Odisha. It happens to be one of the very few cities that have an Asian Highway (AH) passing directly through the city jurisdiction. The AH1 links Japan with Turkey, through Korea, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran. Durgapur has bus terminuses at Benachiti-I, Benachiti-II (commonly referred to as Prantika), City Center, and Station More. Within the city, private mini-buses operate from Prantika to Station terminus, via different routes through the city, including the popular 8B route. Auto-rickshaws ply between City Center, Benachity, William Kery, Chandidas, Mamra, Bidhannagar, Railway Station and other parts of the city in a number of routes. Pre-paid taxis are available in the city from Station and City Center Terminus. Additionally, cab and auto-rickshaw services for the city are offered online. Only one bus is available for the Kalyani-Bansberia route and it departs from Benachity at 4:40 am and from Kalyani at 10 am every day. Various private buses ranging from sleepers to premium Volvos are available from City Center, Durgapur for Kolkata, Asansol, Barddhaman, Barakar, Bhubaneswar, Digha and other nearby cities. Durgapur is the headquarters of SBSTC which provides government bus services to Kolkata, Haldia, Digha, Bankura etc. from Durgapur and Asansol. Private buses are available for Asansol, Barakar, Bardhaman, Bolpur, Bishnupur, Chittaranjan, Deoghar, Digha, Illambajar, Jhargram, Kalna, Katwa, Kharagpur, Krishnanagar, Medinipur, Nabadwip, Nalhati, Purulia, Rampurhat, Siuri, Tatanagar, Tarakeswar, etc.

Durgapur is a model[citation needed] railway station on the Bardhaman–Asansol section. It is located in Paschim Bardhaman district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It serves Durgapur, the third most populous city in West Bengal, and the surrounding industrial areas.[6] It was ranked the third-cleanest railway station in India in 2019.

This is known as the Steel City of West Bengal. The best thing about Durgapur is its weather and landscape, they're absolutely great. The city is very well planned with the residential part at a side and the industry part is in other side. The public transport in Durgapur is better than any place in West Bengal. One of the main junction of WB (after burdwan and before asansol). The station is very net and clean even plastic bottles crushing machine available here. Elevator and escalater always 24/7 available. Few shops for snack and beverages are available. One of the main thing I liked that the RPF , ticket collector/checker are very active, so don't board on station without ticket ?.24/7 bus, auto, toto, taxi are available. Enjoyed here too much ?.

One of the important Railway Station of Grand Cord - Howrah New Delhi Route. Station is really nice. The rail station is a clean and well structured . Durgapur Railway station is situated in Durgapur, West Bengal. Durgapur is a model railway station on the Bardhaman–Asansol section. It is located in Paschim Bardhaman district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It serves Durgapur, the third most populous city in West Bengal, and the surrounding industrial areas. It was ranked the third-cleanest railway station in India in 2019. Order delicious food in train journey at Durgapur and get food delivered on seat Jain, Veg, Non-veg food options available. Apart from factories, there are many coalmines, some closed now, and some with fires burning deep in the mineshafts. The mining area extends for a large area, mostly to the south of the tracks. Quite a portion of the track passes through cuttings, where the surrounding area is higher than the track level, resulting in the profusion of characteristic small masonry bridges crossing the tracks."
