★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Forbidden for civilians for past 300 years, except when invited this is a must visit place for the privileged. I was invited by the army & stayed in the fabled Kitchener house. The manicured grounds, well kept roads, beautiful ancient East India company offices is what abounds here. The only way to enter are the 4 gates that are part of the fortification. The moat that surrounded it now lies dry with manicured grass lawns and few trees jutting out of ancient islands. As a guest to the armed perimeter I did not feel it fit to take photographs as it is the head quarters of the Eastern Command of the Indian Army.
I am lucky to have the whole tour of the place.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Highly secure place, neat and clean. Feel like I am wondering outside The Kolkata. Not everyone can allow to visit here. You need to show the I card of this place or verify that someone staff schedule a meeting with you over here.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fort William has an illustrious history and has been a subject of fascination to all history and travel lovers. The most interesting fact about the Fort is that there were two Forts, the original one built and named after King William III and the new fort built after the destruction of the original.
The original fort was built by British East India Company and the work started under the supervision of John Goldsborough in 1696. As the construction progressed, the South- East Bastion and nearby walls by the Hooghly River was added by Sir Charles Eyre. The construction of the fort was almost on the verge of completion and was yet to be named. In 1700, the fort was named after King William III.
Charles Eyre’s successor, John Beard added the North- East Bastion in 1701 and the government house in the centre of the fort was built in 1702. The final structure of the fort was a two storied building with projecting wings and an internal guard room. This guard room went on to be known as the ‘Black Hole of Calcutta’ when in 1756 the then Nawab of Bengal, Sirad Ud Daulah, took over the fort and the city by conquering the British East India Company. He named the city Alinagar after his grandfather, Aliwardi.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fort William located in Kolkata. Took 1 hours from howrah station or less . Near Babu ghat. Fort William is historical place but now it's occupied by India army force. Not that issue you can still visit fort William because one side is fort William park and another side Indian army.one of the best place in Kolkata. You can also visit Babu ghat stadium from fort William by walk.

But the most disappointed part is the security officials stopped ourselves to enter the fort and told us the fort is only to be visited by the amry personnel family....
I then realised we have entered from the wrong gate....and the main gate was in the opposite side of the monument..
This is very disappointing but we still enjoyed the moment.. with fun and positivity..??
