★ ★ ★ ★ ★ When we purchase something, it is with so much of thought. We also preserve and take care of those things. But when the time comes to discard them, we just throw them away - into the Trash Can. Why not give it to Goonj?
Founded by Anshu Gupta, a Ramon Magsaysay award winner, Goonj, puts to use anything and everything which still has use, but might not be needed by us. Specially old clothes, linen, curtains etc. Which is distributed as payment for labour rendered by people in rural areas in their local development activities like digging wells, ponds, reinforcing embankments of rivers etc. Anything which the local panchayat might need. Only the payment is made through these clothes, donated by us. Of course, one can donate in cash too. Goonj, is able put everything to use. Even something as small as staple pins. Wonderful initiative.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The best thing about Goonj is that you can give away all that you won't use starting from spectacles, slippers to furniture.
They repair the repairable ones and donate yo different villages where there are no facilities. They also make the villagers do their own community work like building bamboo bridges, cleaning the village pond etc and in return they get gift packages with the donated items.
You should visit Goonj once to understand how they work.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Goonj is doing a great job. Most homes have many unused or lesser used articles, clothing etc that can be useful to others. We can drop such things at their warehouse or various collection centres. Their wide range of activities in rural areas around the country is very impressive. Everyone should be associated with such organizations.
