The Government Museum in Bangalore is a must visit not just for tourists, but also local Bangaloreans. The museum was built in 1865 and like State Central Library, is a Pompeian Red stone building. The artefacts there date back many centuries. Don’t miss out on the hero stone at the entrance of the museum. Would definitely help if there was a guide of sorts at the museum.

Unfortunate to see this place not get as much attention as the technological museum. There are some amazing archaeological artefacts right from 4000 BC to 1800 AD. However, some of the artefacts need better cataloging.

A very good historic museum situated off MG road. It's just next to the VITM (another nice place to visit). The museum has a lot of artifacts, though some of them have very generic names like bricks, bow and arrow etc. rather than something more specific. Tickets are priced very reasonably too.

Really good place to visit. Houses both the department of archaeology and the art gallery. It's the same Rs 20 ticket for both places.

A decent history museum with moderate artifacts. As you enter the periphery there are canons in the front. Ticket here is 20Rs. per person. Inside you fine marvelous two life size Dwarapala idols with amazing details, many potery found in burial sites, bronze notes, paintings, stone age tools, swords etc. First floor has some old musical instruments, and many old paintings. Another section is quite interesting where a whole hall is filled with ancient stone idols. There are some stone sculptures even outside.

Reputed to be one of the oldest museums in the country, the Government Museum is a remarkable treasure trove of archaeological items such as stone carvings, pottery, paintings, coins and inscriptions. A prominent attraction in this museum is the first ever recorded Kannada inscription – the Halmidi inscription (450 AD) and Atakur inscription (949 AD) slabs. Government Museum, Bangalore is open from 10 AM till 5 PM on all days except Mondays.

Loads of Art Works, Artifact's and Antiquities are found here. You can learn about history! Entry fee is 20rs per person. There's parking for both Cars and Two wheelers. The place can be much more well maintained. Overall a good place to visit while you are roaming around MG Road.
