The precinct of Hathroi fort is named after this derelict fort perched on a hilltop. Indeed, history, myth and mystery seem to combine in the eyes of tgr citizens of Jaipur and visitors to the city when they look at the ring of forts and fortification walls that perch on the city skyline. These forts, or garhs, encircling the 18th century planned city of Jaipur, include the small garrison fort of Hathroi. For protection on the southern side, Jai Singh chose the available low rocky outcrops and hillocks to place Hathroi fort at Jaipur’s southwest. These are more in the nature of garrison forts, with bastions, protective walls and solid defensible gateways accessed through an outer line of fortification. Hathroi was held by a series of nobles posted as fort commanders or qiledars, up to the merger of Dhoondhar with Rajasthan.

It's a decent place, worth going to if you're nearby. Not specially just for a visit here. There's a temple inside that you can see.

The fort is in very dilapidated state. It is not under government or any trust. And 10 families are staying inside the fort. Few of them are the descendants of Hindu sadhu who was made to stay here since it houses an old Hindu temple. The walls are still intact however sign of poor maintenance is visible.

I happened to make a visit to this ancient fort located just opposite to the Raj tourism office building. It’s an amazing fort. I was told that the king had got this fort made for his staff who were his army heads. Cooks. Etc and they used to live here with their families. Unfortunately it’s occupied by some families who have been living there since ages. The fort should be restored by the local ASI. tourism department and preserved. Or else it will fall apart in few years from now.
