About the Department of Evening Studies: The Himachal Pradesh University was founded on July 22, 1970. It is located at Summer Hill which is at a distance of 5 kms from the main town, Shimla. About Himachal Pradesh University Department of Evening Studies, Shimla
Department of Evening Studies, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla-171001, was established in July 1962 as Panjab University Evening College, on the recommendation of the University Grants Commission, to provide the facility of continuing education to those who cannot study in day colleges, especially the less privileged persons and those who take employment after schooling. It became a constituent of Himachal Pradesh University when it was established on 22 July 1970. In 1976-77 it moved to its present independent campus—the historical ‘Kirk’ (Gandhi Bhawan) and ‘Manse’ buildings.
This was the first institution in the state to introduce M.A. classes in English and Hindi in 1979 and in Public Administration in 1981. B. Com. was introduced in 1975. M.A. in Economics was started in 1990 and M.Com. in 2001. It was renamed Himachal Pradesh University Centre for Evening Studies in July 2001 and as Department of Evening Studies in June 2019.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ भारत के मानव संसाधन विकास मंत्रालय के अंतर्गत राष्ट्रीय संस्थागत रैंकिंग ढांचे में विभिन्न मापदंडों में सुधार के फलस्वरूप इस बार विश्वविद्यालय को रैंकिंग में बेहतर पाठयक्रम, मूलभूत सुविधाओं में वृद्धि और आईसीटी युक्त स्मार्ट क्लासरूम की भूमिका रही है। एचपीयू प्रशासन का कहना है कि विश्वविद्यालय के सभी शैक्षणिक विभागों, शोध केंद्रों विशेष रूप से जीव विज्ञान और विज्ञान के अन्य विषयों में बीते वर्ष गुणात्मक शोध कार्य हुआ है। इस अवधि के दौरान विश्वविद्यालय में नेट/सेट सहित विभिन्न प्रतियोगी परीक्षाओं में उत्तीर्ण व सफल छात्र-छात्राओं की संख्या में भी वृद्धि हुई है। विवि के बहुत से प्राध्यापकों ने अंतरराष्ट्रीय एवं राष्ट्रीय स्तर के संस्थानों द्वारा वित्त पोषित शोध कार्यों को सफलतापूर्वक पूरा किया है। इस बार राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर सात स्थानों में सुधार कर विश्वविद्यालय ने विपरीत परिस्थितियों के बावजूद अपने शोध और प्रसार का लोहा मनवाया है। वर्तमान में विवि के सांध्यकालीन अध्ययन विभाग के अतिरिक्त पंचवर्षीय विधिक संस्थान, विवि सूचना एवं प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान और विवि व्यवसायिक प्रबंध महाविद्यालय ने तकनीकी प्रबंध और विधि शिक्षा के प्रसार में प्रदेश का नाम रोशन किया है।

 This time the university has got better curriculum, increase in basic facilities and smart classroom with ICT as a result of various parameters improvement in National Institutional Ranking Framework under Ministry of Human Resource Development of India. HPU administration says that qualitative research work has been done in the last year in all the academic departments, research centers of the university, especially in biology and other disciplines of science. During this period there has also been an increase in the number of successful and successful students in various competitive examinations including NET / SET in the university. Many professors of the University have successfully completed research work funded by international and national level institutions. This time, by improving seven places at the national level, the university has proved its research and dissemination despite adverse conditions. At present, in addition to the Department of Evening Studies of the University, the Five Year Legal Institute, University Institute of Information and Technology and the University of Professional Management College have brought laurels to the state in the promotion of technical management and legal education.
