★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Regonal Occupational Health Centre (Eastern) Kolkata, instituted in 1980, has focused on occupational health research in the eastern states – West Bengal, Bihar, Orissa. Landmark studies have undertaken by the researchers, namely:
Pneumoconiosis in underground, surface coal miners' and mica miners'. Byssinosis in jute mill workers, epidemiological study in smelting plants, clinico-epidemiological studies of arsenic exposed population, effect of lead on growth and development of children, occupational hazards in stone crushing, grain handling, transport workers. Noteworthy contribution is in patented ergo - designing of cycle rickshaw.
Reproductive toxicological studies due to heavy metal exposure, pulmonary health of beedi making workers and exposure to air pollutants, environmental and biological monitoring, VOCs and its metabolites.
