★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies located in Aazad Bhavan at Salt Lake is an autonomous Research Institute named after India's first Education Minister. This Azad Bhavan Campus of the Institute was inaugurated in the year 2010 by the then Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. The institute is funded by the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India.
The primary focus of the Institute is on Area Studies with special reference to social, cultural, economic and political developments in the West, Central and South Asian countries since the 19th century onward. M.Phil. and PhD. level students of different Universities are engaged here in research. There are enormous facilities in Azad Bhavan for researchers and Visiting Scholars, such as a Seminar room, Conference Hall, Guest House, a Library containing more than 10,000 books, a Research Fellows Work Station.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It is an institute for advanced level study and research on the different aspects of the history and culture of the Asian countries, with special emphasis on the Indian subcontinent. The Institute is a part of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. It is about a kilometre from the EM Bypass and the Beliaghat junction inside the Salt Lake side on the IB Block in Sector III. It is located between the AMRI and Columbia Asia Hospital. The Salt Lake Stadium ( Yuba Bharati Krirangan) is almost on the other side of the road. The place is well-connected to different places in the city by a fleet of buses.
