The Joy Mitra Kali Bari, is a temple dedicated to the goddess Kali. The temple with a fresh coat of paint looks beautiful like a picture postcard from a distance. Very serene, atmosphere for the religious minded and spiritually inclined. Built in 1850 by Joy Chandra Mitra, the temple stood on an erstwhile Dutch cemetery. The main temple was dedicated to the goddess, Kali, and twelve temples were dedicated to her consort, Lord Shiva. The Goddess is referred to as Kripamoyee, ‘one full of mercy’ and the idols are carved from a single stone. It is believed that Rani Rashmoni built the famous Kali temple at Dakshineshwar six years later and modelled it on the Joy Mitra Kali Bari.

Famous as joimitra Kali mandir. Just beside ferry ghat of kuthighat. Very nice place but importance and natural beauty will be faded away slowly by promotaraj activities. Afternoon @ 4pm beautiful to visit the temple.if you interested in history then purohit mosai help you about this place , mandir and goddesses. Baranagar bazar stop or sinthi more main bus stop then auto or rickshaw for mandir. thanks

A very calm religious temple to spend a me-time. Meanwhile one can read articles about this temple on Google. Because one can hardly found someone to ask the history of this place. But it's a must visit near Baranagar at the bank of River Ganga.

It's a beautiful, dilapidated structure situated besides Ganga by the ghat overlooking belur math. The presiding deity here is Goddess Kali ( Kripamayee) .The twelve Shiva temples are dedicated to Pashupatinath; Biswanath; Baidyanath; Chandranath; Amarnath; Bhubaneswar; Adinath; Taraknath; Somnath; Kedarnath; Umananda and Rameswar. All the twelve aatchala Shiv mandirs are on a raised platform and a flight of stairs is there to reach there. The temple complex is of nabaratna (nine pinnacled) style of Bengal’s temple architecture. The zamindar Joy Narayan Mitra who lived in Shovabazar built this beautiful nabaratna temple

When Nabin Bhaskar was assigned the task to create the idol of Ma Bhabatarini for Dakshineswar temple by Rani Rashmoni, the first idol became a little too small for the garbagriha of the temple. It was not installed at Dakshineswar and was later taken by Joy Mitra for his Kali temple in Baranagar. She is Goddess Kripamoyee and it is said that Ramkrishna Paramhansa visited the temple and referred to the goddess as Ma Bhabatarini's sister, Ma Kripamoyee. He also called her as Chhoto Maashi. The temple resembles Dakshineswar Kali temple but it isn't too crowded.

I love ❤ to visit this temple situated in the lap of the Ganges frequently, because this place is thinly visited comparing with others, another reason may be of its old age. Resident of Shobhabazar, Zamindar Joy Narayan Mitra built this temple in Bengali year 1257 ( Gregorian calendar 1850 ). Mother Kali is worshipped here as ' Kripamoyee '. The temple has nine pinnacles, a garden of Tulsi (holy Basil plant), Bel ( Wood apple tree) and other flowering trees. One has to enter the temple premises through a lion gate. After entering, twelve Shiva temples can be seen in two rows, six in each. The remains of two 'Nahabatkhana' structures will be found outside the main gate, presumably those were meant for musicians in the time of festivities.
