★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Kavnai fort @ 1 Nov 21
Trek to this fort was unplanned . While returning from a trek and covering 5 forts and 3 other sites we were exhausted however we had sometime time in hand. Then decided to go to this fort near Ghoti igatpuri. Base village is kavnai.
The route to the fort is through steep ridge with nice view of the mukane dam ( next to upper Vaitarani dam).
The steep approach to the main and the only door is super exciting ( see the photo ).A ladder is placed at the entrance to facilitate the climb.
The fort has small lake and a temple. Some ruins of old structure are also seen Alongwith the bastion.
You can spot tringalwadi fort and also mordhan fort from here.
There is also a hill adjacent to it with nice green alternate ridges and gulleys. Unfortunately this peak is unnamed.
What to see
?Main entrance
?small lake and the temple atop
?bastion
?the surrounding view of mukane dam, tringalwadi and Mordhan fort
?excellent sunset view

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Located at Kavnai village in the region of Nashik district, Kavnai Fort is a hill fort which dates back to the Mughal dynasty. However, later on, it turned into a stronghold of the Nizams of until it was captured by the British army in the 19th century.
Built out of stone and lying in ruins, this ancient beauty is currently under the care of the Indian government and has become a weekend destination for local tourists and trekkers. The fort is easily accessible as it is connected to the base by a flight of rock-cut stairs. It takes an approximate time of 1 h to reach the top of the fort.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Definitely one of the top 3 forts I've visited. It's easily accessible, short and close to Nashik. Away from the crowds. The lake and temple on the top is a delight to see or swim. You get mesmerising views of nearby dams and mountains . Have always experienced great weather here. Monsoons lead to a yellow carpet of sonki flowers here. Stone archway and steps at entrance are very much intact and thrilling. Must visit Fort.
