A historic and worth visiting Shahji/ Sahuji palace which takes you through the royal days and gives you an insight of the life and valor of the kolhapur dynasty. The palace cum museum houses various huge rooms, the art is great , the photos are classic. The central hall / diwankhana is amazing. Also visit the near by small zoo , wher you can see dears and some other animals.

New Palace, Kolhapur is a palace situated in Kolhapur, in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The Palace took 7 years to complete, from 1877 to 1884, [1] costing about seven lakhs of rupees. [2]Being an excellent specimen of Indian architecture built in black polished stone, it has been an attraction for tourists. It has extensive premises with a garden, fountain and wrestling ground. The whole building is eight-angled and has a tower in the middle. The clock on it was fixed in 1877. At separate distances there are small towers. On every glass are painted the events in Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's life, the founder of Maratha Empire. There is a zoo and a ground lake. Even today, it is the residence of Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaja, the direct descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaja.

Historic place. Must visit. Please take care of transportation. Going back is painful if you don't have vehicle. We walked like more than a km. One of the best preserved Heritage places in Maharashtra as well as India.

Very good collection of swords and other war related items. Good collection of historic photos. But when I see stuffed dead animals like tigers leopards I feel very sad how the old kings have wasted our treasure mercilessly. If I am not wrong at least 100 tigers and cubs itself are kept there.
