CMD Speaks

I believe that the mantra to happiness and the spread of warmth can be achieved when good food is served with utmost love and passion. Our first outlet 'Only Fish' was founded in 1992 to recreate the magic of Calcutta cuisine in the by lanes of Mumbai. With the immense popularity that the restaurant enjoyed, I realized that there was a dearth of speciality restaurants both in the Fine Dining and Casual Dining spheres. All this motivated me to follow my single-minded dream with 'passion, 'hard work' and 'dedication' and thus, began the journey of Speciality Group of Restaurants which aimed at bringing innovative and creative dining experience for all. I like to bring some creativity, some inspiration into these highly competitive businesses. It could be a new menu item, or an ad, or a song. I love to prepare it and serve it, and personally relish it. Our mission will always be to bring "passion onto your plate" and with our excellent team work, we continue with the spirit of "making our guests feel special."

This is a fine dining place, particularly for those who love Chinese cuisine. Their buffet lunch is a good choice for the diners.

Loved this place, the crab soup was yummy. So was the prawn dumplings. We ate hakka noodles with General Taos chicken, the latter a bit sweet for me. Didn't like the coconut dumplings served as dessert, the coconut was a bit old i guess.

The service is quite nice. The food is also decent for indianised Chinese food but try to avoid the new menu items. Not very kind on the pocket though.

We were on the table and I repeatedly told the manager and staff that only 2 people (including me) were eating non veg and everyone else is veg. And veg should be served first, and not in tandem with non veg. Despite of many instructions and requests, one of the waiters went ahead and put non veg on our primary guest's plate. The plate was replaced on our protest, but the noodles were already over by others. Then the chef made noodles again, probably under time pressure from management, because the noodles were raw at many places. All in all, a disaster for us. For a person who has been a vegetarian life long, it was quite a shocker to suddenly have fish on their food plate.

We love mainland china. It’s the overall quality , quantity and taste . If you’re looking for Chinese food nothing beats it. They even surprise you sometimes with complementary treats and Swiggy helps with the delivery. Value for money. Highly recommended

Not quite wheelchair accessible as the website indicates. The food is good and so is the service, but we would've preferred to have known ahead of time what they meant by wheelchair access. There are two safety barriers -- one about 50 meters from the entrance to restaurant and another that is about 75 meters before that near the parking lot. The parking lot itself is not paved well and it is a challenge to move the wheelchair from the car to the paved path towards the restaurant. The wheelchair "access" is provided by 3-4 healthy guys who lift the wheelchair with the person in it above the barriers and down three steps on the other side. We are thankful to the guys who were willing to do that, but my wife would rather not have the "flying" experience in the wheelchair. Similarly the toilets are not wheelchair accessible -- one has to take an elevator that barely fits the wheelchair, and then there are 2 steps with no railing for going to the passage leading to toilets, there are no toilet that are designed for physically challenged people. Again, the waiter was very helpful in assisting us in having my wife go up the steps, but really a ramp should have been provided. We had selected to go there based on our previous visit few (several?) years ago when the restaurant had a separate location upstairs. Now it is combined with "Oh Calcutta" -- all the decor inside is Calcutta memorabilia, only the statues outside the entrance are from original Mainland China. There are separate menus available for Oh Calcutta and Mainland China. The menu for Mainland China appeared to be shorter than what we remembered from our visit years ago. The food is good but not quite as good as we remembered from our previous visit. The host was very helpful in having a dish put together that was not on the menu but met our specifications. Guess the interest in quality Chinese cuisine locally has gone down forcing the owners to downsize and merge the restaurant into Oh Calcutta.
