★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Paharganj side has become visually more better than earlier, however the stench of the public urinal and the the huge crowd are too much to handle.
Better management by the MCD/NDMC is required and and even better role by the traffic police is pending for long time now.
The traffic signal just before the main entrance to the station is always choc-a-block with traffic, whatever time of the day it is.....keep that in mind when you need to go to the station from this side.
Just outside the station are numerous shops of travel agents and small hotels which suit variety of budgets.
BEWARE OF PICKPOCKETS.
Keep your valuables safe.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very congested. Coolies are not disciplined. Leave 20 minutes before your travel time to reach station. Well maintained but auto and taxi drivers don't go by meter. They ask their own charges for which you are forced due to no choice.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The experience starts with a fast security check. It was so fast that bags were literally falling off the scanner belt. It seemed like a formality only.
Anyways, once you are in, the railway station is good with proper platform numbers and upcoming train details overhead.
I was travelling to Chandigarh via Kalka Shatabdi train from platform 1.
For platform 1, you have to go across the whole station which is quite odd.
Platform was clean and had many seats to sit in. Train arrived on time and I boarded.
The New Delhi railway station can be improved security wise though, everything else was fine.

The road outside the station gate is very busy with traffic and vehicle moves very slowly due to heavy rush. However, once you enter the gates the station is well maintained. Just follow the public and you will be in order!
The main entrance of platforms has installed a very large ceiling fan. Single fan covers entire area.
If you book a porter outside the station, be cautious of the total amount they ask later. They might entice you by saying Rs.10 and Rs.20 but always fix the total amount for all the luggage.

First issue i encountered = There are autos & taxis Parked in "Drop-off" Lane
Which is bad, since there's not enough space to stop ur car & drop someone off.
I had to literally drop my uncle off quickly, all when cars were waiting behind me & honking.
This illegal parking by autos should be stopped.
The station is clean, with a good view & parking space is built, but not properly used.
There is also a beautiful artWork on the wall next to parking.
My experience was bad becuz of congestion at drop off lane, but it is overall a nicely built station!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Tye platforms are numbered 1 - 16 starting from the Pahar Ganj side of New Delhi Railway station. This platform has undergone a makeover and looks quite clean and modern now with a digital rail museum and a memorabilia shop. The upper class waiting rooms are not properly air-conditioned and the platform is a far more comfortable place normally.
