★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This impressive temple complex built in 12th century is almost in the massive ruins scattered across the place gives you the feeling of lost grandeur of sculpture and architecture in the sands of the time.only the base of the huge structure is intact built on a high pedestal and some lively carvings on the door in the form of impressive ganga and yamuna along with colorful guardians holding mace like weapons makes you very sad that time has erased the wonderful architecture of this temple.the sanctum is unique where you need to climb down from the high pedestal and a modern phallic form of lingam is placed in it now.The humble nandi placed in independent missing structure, massive ruins of another temple with so much damaged sculpture, some wonderful sculpture placed in closed store room that will be opened as museum in the coming years should not be missed.other tiny sculpture in the form of brahma or astadikpala with the beard, dancing ganesha, sitting couples in ardaparyanka posture, royal elephants and lions, amorous couple shiva parvathi on the outer walls of the base is worth visiting this ancient temple.public transport to reach here from bilaspur is very difficult and time consuming as buses are unreliable and you have to depend on shared auto's that will start only when there are enough passengers.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is the best place in Malhar to visit to under the ancient Kalchurian impact. The craves display various mudras around the temple.
Only disappointment is the there is no roof protection for the excavated stones .

Information source ASI
An inscription dated A.D. 1167-68 records that the main temple of Patalesvara Mahadeva, dedicated to Kedara (Shiv) in Mallala (modern Malhar), was built by a Brahman, native of Kumhati during the reign of Jajalladev of the Haihaya dynasty. The temple is built on a high platform and consists of a square sanctum and a mandapa. The garbhagriha housing a shivlinga is placed at a lower level than the mandapa.
