Radha-Govinda-Jiu Mandir, Antpur - Antpur

Atappur is a village in Hooghly district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is famous for its unique Terracotta Temple located here. Radhagovindjyu Temple is the most famous temple of Atappur. It is about 100 feet high. Dewan Krishnaram Mitra of Bardhaman Raja constituted this temple. The temple was completed in 1786 (in 1708 sq.). The temple has unusual terracotta artwork. Temple bricks are made in Gangamati and Ganges. Terracotta topics have been taken from the contemporary issues of 18 old, Ramayana, Mahabharata, Indian history and temple construction. At that time the Muslim kingdom was diminishing and the European power was increasing. It is said that Krishnaram Mitra built this temple to increase the spirit of Hindus. Earlier, the best examples of Terakota temple were in Bishnupur. But this temple diminished the importance of Bishnupur. India's history, old and all-religion co-ordination in the temple's terracotta was highlighted. But Radhakrishna, Durga and Chandi got more importance. There were also various scenes of war. The terracotta sculptures of the war are seen by cavalry, grazing and crucible soldiers. Besides, the terracotta of the soldiers with cannons and guns is also seen. Besides Hindu old and historical characters, various Muslim kings, and Europeans have also been presented through terracotta. The temple is situated on the silk route due to the many cultural influences. Radhakanta and Radharva Vignan established and regular worship on the throne in the womb. The temple is surrounded by a wall and currently protected by the archaeological rights of the West Bengal government.

Located in a historic place "Antpur" near Antpur Ramkrishna Mission. Very old temple surrounded by some small temples. It opens in specific time.

This temple is in very nice place. Naturally calm area. You can go in a holiday of one day. It's the 2nd oldest Teracotta Mandir of West- Bengal though I'm not sure about this information. The outside design on wall is very beautiful. You can't go inside of this temple. It's prohibited for outsiders.

One of the best terracotta marvel of Hooghly as well as Bengal. Situated near Jangipara, it is a premises full of different temples as well as beautiful ambience. There is a beautiful rasmancha, dol mancha and multiple small and beautiful do-chala temples in the premises.

Wonderful Terra cotta work on this 235 years old temple. The tiles, being based on topics that vary from mythical voyages to the battle of Plassey, stand as chronicles of their time. This is not only art, but history told in clay. Some enthusiastic decorators have vandalised the lower tiles to have a piece of history for their homes. The state archaeological department should put in proper enclosures to discourage such behaviour. All in all, highly recommended, but please be mindful and respectful of this splendid heritage artists of yore have left us.
