★ ★ ★ ★ ★ During British rule, Bardhaman kings were the largest zamindars of Bengal. In 1955, when the government announced the decision to evict the zamindari system, the last king of Burdwan, Udaychand Mahtab Rajprasad, with "Mahtab Manzil", the palaces and palaces of the royal family were donated to the cause of public welfare. In those palaces and mahals, it is set up in Burdwan University, University Vice-Chancellor, Maharaja Udaychand Mahila Mahavidyalay etc.
One of the palaces is the Mubarak Manzil situated on Bijaychand Road in Bardhaman. During the reign of Raja, this palace was an Anjuman Kachari of Burdwan Raja. After being taken over by the government, the office of Burdwan (presently East Bengal) District Land and Land Revenue Authority was established in this wonderful palace.
