This is the birth place and ancestral house of Swami Vivekananda who was known as Narendranath Dutta before his initiation from Thakur Ramkrishna Paramhansadev. This place is a must visit for any Indian, because as we all know that each and every Indian, irrespective of caste creed and religion has deep love ❤ and respect ? in their hearts for this affectionate and beloved son of mother India ??. His holiness took birth on 12th January in 1863 in an upper middle class family of 'Kayastha ' caste. This liberal Hindu monk earned much prestige and pride for his motherland. Thinking about the great job he had done in his short span of life that we still get astonished. His movement to promote Vedanta philosophy in the western world is well known to everyone. Social reform was in his heart, he spread a strong message to the youths of India to build a powerful and enlightened nation. Worldwide, highly regarded Ramkrishna Mission founded by Vivekananda have been working consistently as per his direction and wishes. Sadly, India lost her one of most prominent and popular son in 1902 too early ? ?

Its a devine place. I am no one to praise Swamiji.. He took Hinduism to the world stage. His devotion & dedication to his work is unparalleled. This place is very calm & quite & very clean as well. They have a light & sound show on the 1st floor & a 3D movie on Swamiji. Though the meditation centre was closed due to covid restriction. This house was restored completely after several damages to the old structure.

Very good place in Kolkata. Swami Vivekananda 12 January 1863 – 4 July 1902), born Narendranath Datta, was an Indian Hindu monk and philosopher. He was a chief disciple of the 19th-century Indian mystic Ramakrishna.Influenced by Western esotericism, he was a key figure in the introduction of the Indian darsanas (teachings, practices) of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world, and is credited with raising interfaith awareness, bringing Hinduism to the status of a major world religion during the late 19th century. He was a major force in the contemporary Hindu reform movements in India, and contributed to the concept of nationalism in colonial India. Vivekananda founded the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission. He is perhaps best known for his speech which began with the words "Sisters and brothers of America ...,"in which he introduced Hinduism at the Parliament of the World's Religions in Chicago in 1893. Vivekananda was born Narendranath Datta (shortened to Narendra or Naren) in a Bengali family at his ancestral home at 3 Gourmohan Mukherjee Street in Calcutta, the capital of British India, on 12 January 1863 during the Makar Sankranti festival. He belonged to a traditional family and was one of nine siblings. His father, Vishwanath Datta, was an attorney at the Calcutta High Court.Durgacharan Datta, Narendra's grandfather was a Sanskrit and Persian scholar who left his family and became a monk at age twenty-five. His mother, Bhubaneswari Devi, was a devout housewife. The progressive, rational attitude of Narendra's father and the religious temperament of his mother helped shape his thinking and personality.Narendranath was interested in spirituality from a young age and used to meditate before the images of deities such as Shiva, Rama, Sita, and Mahavir Hanuman. He was fascinated by wandering ascetics and monks.Narendra was naughty and restless as a child, and his parents often had difficulty controlling him. His mother said, "I prayed to Shiva for a son and he has sent me one of his demons".

Its the ancestral home of Swami Vivekananda which has been restored to its original form and converted into a museum, definitely a very fulfilling experience in the house of a thinker, a reformer and a preacher whose influence extended to the global stage.

RKM Swami Vivekananda's ancestral house cum museum is the ideal place to learn what is life and for what it is meant. It is the place where the new generations must have a visit. One will get detail information about Swami Vivekananda's birth, his work and his speech at Chicago, as, light-sound show and 3D movie is shown on behalf of the museum and no extra charge is required for this show. Though the house was not like what is right now, the house was completely destructed in coarse of time. It is due to the immense hard works of Ramakrishna Mission that made it possible to restore the house to it's present condition. Everyone should visit it as it a cultural heritage site in kolkata. I visited the place yesterday and I assure that RKM Swami Vivekananda ancestral house will conquer everyone's heart.
