This is also called Pataleshwar Cave Temple dedicated to Pataleshwar - Lord of the Underworld. Believed to be inspired by the Elephanta Caves in Bombay, this temple is believed to have been carved out of a single rock. However the construction is incomplete and no one is aware of the correct entrance to the temple. It is accessible by bus and rickshaws from all parts of Pune. There are many sculptures and idols of Hindu gods & goddesses, intricately done, as also a large shivling. There is a tastefully landscaped garden with a pond that has lotuses and water lilies of different colours. The premises also houses the samadhi of Shri Jangali Maharaj, who is believed to have come from Vadodra and lived in Pune during the 1800s.

Best place to visit on Tripurari pournima Kartik month( November- December) Every year on Tripuri Pournima, a 'Deepotsav' is organized at Pataleshwar Caves, where the sabhamandap and the surrounding area is lit up with hundered thousands of oil diyas! Parking on road side only...No vallet parking available... One needs to climb stairs to reach main temple

Jangali Maharaj, also known as Sadguru Jangali Maharaj or Guru Maharaj, was a Maharashtrian saint who lived in Pune, India, in the late 19th century. "Jungle" (Jangali) "Resident of forest" (Maharaj) Emperor. A major commercial road in Pune (Jangali Maharaj Road, near shivaji nagar) is named after him. It is believed that he was born in the state of Baroda (Vadodara of present-day Gujarat) in the early 18th century. Very little is known about his early life other than that he was an athlete and participated in the Indian Rebellion of 1857. He was a very great spiritual guru who is said to have attained all the spiritual chakras. This place houses the saint's last cremation, has a clam, rustic and divine feel around the area. Devotees are expected to open their shoes at the right side shoe stand after you enter and go up the few stairs. There is a washroom available at the backside in case one wishes to use. COVID norms are generally maintained and followed by all visitors.

Calm place. Spiritual place. Samadhi of Jangli Maharaj. On JM road itself. Road is named after him. Besides Pataleshwar caves. Very nice place. You will like it. Very clean. Washrooms available. No parking available. You have to look to park on road. Which is very difficult. Many restaurants and street food option available nearby.
