Shishupala Gada was an ancient capital of Kalinga along the bank of river Daya. This place was the witness to the famous "Kalinga War" had taken place in 2nd Century BC, i.e around 2200 years back.In the Dhauli rock edict of Emperor Ashok, Various monuments are there specially the sohal khamb(16 pillars where the king kept their elephants).

The place is completely different of how it looks like in pictures on google The pictures are actually of a year ago but currently the place had a dead body of a cow & also was smelling so bad. The whole place was filled with grass & it just is completely the opposite of how beautiful it used to look in pictures. Wasted my day going there, hope you don't waste yours & visit Dhauli or some nearby place instead & enjoy

Serene, away from the crowd and isolated, got a lots of historical significance. The government should try to protect and improve the conditionof this place.

It'would be a very frustrating experience , if you expect a lot and visit this place to quench your wander-lust. The whole area is absolutely commercialized. And, specially the reminiscences of this fort has lost all of her glory due to lack of maintenance. Than a fort, it looks more like a dirty haunted house, now-a-days.

Very sad to see the current state of affairs. The Government and the ASI have failed miserably to protect, restore and further explore our heritage. Lack of willpower has enabled the public to build houses around the ruins which has further closed all doors for exploration. Felt very dissapointed. The moment you see the ruins and the towers you can realise the blunder we humans have done for our selfish gains by not preserving it. Shame on us!

Total waste of time. The approach is pathetic. The whole area is overgrown with shrubs and bushes. No signage. Nothing much visible except a little bit of the walls. Can be avoided.

In terms of preserving the assets from the History Odisha probably stands the last among the all states of India. Whether it is Konark, jagannath temple or Sisupalgarh fort or pillar of sisupalgarh. The whole fort is now become bushy and Jungle and place for drunkards. Even the local people can not address the place properly. You have to pave the way within the jungle, garbage to visit the fort. The hording of ASI also removed by the locals. Surely if you are visiting the place end of 2022 or 2023...probably you may see nothing here. All plots are booked by the people for House or flat, even the bricks of this ancient fort are used for marking the plots. Odisha Asamed of yourself for this tragic preservation of your assets which also may generate revenue for your state. Disheartening....
