My Addis Experience (March 2022) Pre-buying thoughts. I wanted a - 1. Hatchback automatic - for ease of use in Mumbai traffic. 2. Premium safety features - since I am a new driver. 3. Less than 4 years old. Less than 40K driven. 4. Budget - 4 to 6.5L. After searching many local garages and online (including Ola Cars who were quite helpful with test drives at home). My shortlisted models were Baleno, Jazz, Swift & i10. I test drove 7 or 8 cars. My observation was that most cars in my budget were driven in excess of 50 - 60k KM, and had noticeably inflated prices. I was on the verge of buying a 2017 Grand i10 Sportz (35k km) from Ola, when I saw a CarDekho ad for a 2018 Magna. That led me to Addis Cars and I instantly booked the 2018 Grand i10 Magna Automatic. Pros of my Addis Experience. What made me immediately book this car over others was the fact that it was less than 5000 km driven. It looked spotless. The interiors looked practically unused. Ms Krishna Shah from Addis guided me through every part of the process from test drive to delivery in 3 weeks. I got a slight reduction on the advertised price but I didn't bargain too much. One year 3rd party warranty, RC transfer, insurance and PUC came included. I took about 50 days and 400 kms to drive the car before writing this review and I am happy with the overall experience. My pros of the car. 1. Superb handling and power from the 1.2L VTVT engine. Great for a new driver like me. Zips through traffic. 2. Fantastic cooling to the extent that I turn the AC off from time to time. It has rear AC vent and rear power outlet. 3. The 2018 automatic came with a Torque Converter instead of the AMT gearbox in subsequent Nios models. Transmission is flawless. 4. Driver side airbag and front ABS gives a reassuring sense of security. The doors close with a reassuring thud that I found lacking in the Kwids, Altos and Santros of the segment. 5. Ample boot space and large bottle spaces on each doors. My cons of the car. 1. Poor mileage of 7 to 8 kmpl in city traffic with AC, against an advertised mileage of 18 kmpl. I drive very conservatively, with eco mode on but the maximum I have extracted is 10 to 11 kmpl on the highway. I have colleagues who get 14 to 17 kmpl on similar sized hatchbacks. 2. Transmission comes with a 4 speed gearbox. The 5th gear is sorely missed on highways. 3. There is no rear wiper or defogger - essential features in my opinion. Cons of my Addis Experience. I purchased more than 40K worth of accessories and at their insistence, I chose to go with Addis’ own accessories team instead of a 3rd party. Mistake! It took a month and a half to finally get the last piece of accessory added. They have a tendency to take the order first and then source the equipment. The main upgrade that I needed was an infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and a Blaupunkt rear camera. While buying, they could not show me the features (they had no products available, only boxes.) I purchased the Sony XAV3500 at their recommendation, only to discover after a few days of usage, that it doesn’t have Android Auto. Even when I specifically came for a demo during my PDI, the technician failed to mention the missing feature. I eventually ended up getting the system replaced with a different one (XAV3200) at an additional 5.5K INR cost. As for the rear camera, after 2 attempts on 2 visits, it is still not calibrated properly. The guidelines are not parallel to the ground and the view is off center. The mechanic did the installation but didn’t have the tools or expertise to properly calibrate the camera. Final thoughts. Addis offers great cars & a hassle-free buying experience but they are not familiar with every small feature of every car. There are multiple discrepancies between the online listing and the actual car. This can be an issue for anyone who is a first time buyer or a car enthusiast/tech nerd like myself. I would advise all to do through research before committing to a car. Would 100% recommend Addis Cars otherwise. S. Mondal April '22
