★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A very pathetic experience, as they are unprofessional and do not seem to have any accountability to their government. In the first place, it is humiliating to apply for a visa in the unfriendly Bangladesh high commission. They have a large compound but the visa section is a locked gate under the sun and it opens to stairs leading to a window, and no staff is found there. No timing for operation is posted on the wall. Nobody is there to give any information. A Bangladeshi visa application is prepared online, and the online receipt mentions the timing as 08:30 to 16:00, but this is false. I first went there in September 2021 to apply for a visa for visiting friends. They put this under the tourist visa category and told me that tourists visas are not given anymore. Mind you, India resumed issuing all visas to Bangladeshi citizens, including medical and tourist visas, but they don't reciprocate. They don't answer phone calls for inquiry (they have 4 landline numbers for receiving calls), so today (9 March 2022) I visited the high commission again to take a chance for a visa at 09:30 but no staff was there. At 10:15 I asked the Indian guards about the visa section timing, and they told me to try between 11:00 and 12:00. So, I decided to leave vowing that I will not make any more attempts to apply for a Bangladesh visa. I hope that the Bangladesh authorities some day recognise and address this issue of lack of accountability of their employees in their foreign missions. Another pertinent point to note is that no public transportation is available at the location of the Bangladesh high commission. But their guards do not allow visa applicants to park cars on the sideways of the public roads. This is something for the local municipality to investigate and address.
