Bodh Gaya is a religious site and place of pilgrimage associated with the Mahabodhi Temple Complex in Gaya district in the Indian state of Bihar. It is famous as it is the place where Gautama Buddha is said to have attained Enlightenment (Pali: bodhi) under what became known as the Bodhi Tree.[2] Since antiquity, Bodh Gaya has remained the object of pilgrimage and veneration both for Hindus and Buddhists..

Such a beautiful, calm and serene place. It can be called the biggest pilgrimage site for Buddhists which is the reason you find many foreigners from Thailand, Burma etc here. If you are visiting this part of Bihar you should definitely visit this temple.

A serene and beautiful place to visit. If you are in Gaya, you must travel to Bodh Gaya, which is about 20kms from Gaya. Because it is worth of it. The Buddhist temple is worth to visit. You will get to learn the history of Lord Goutam buddha, and also about the origin of Buddhism. You must talk to the people over there as monk, they will guide and tell you about its history and its rich legacy. There are various other temples too like lord Jagannath temple and all. One mosque is also there, which depicts about the ethics and values of India which rely on "unity in diversity".Once you get in there, you will never feel like going out. It's my personal experience over there. Hope, you visit and second me for sure. Have a great time. Thank you.

The Bodhi Tree, also called the Bodhi Fig Tree or Bo Tree, was a large and ancient sacred fig tree located in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, India. Siddhartha Gautama, the spiritual teacher who became known as the Buddha, is said to have attained enlightenment or Bodhi circa 500 BCE under it. In religious iconography, the Bodhi Tree is recognizable by its heart-shaped leaves, which are usually prominently displayed. The proper term "Bodhi Tree" is also applied to existing sacred fig trees, also known as bodhi trees. The foremost example of an existing tree is the Mahabodhi Tree growing at the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, which is often cited as a direct descendant of the original tree. This tree, planted around 250 BCE, is a frequent destination for pilgrims, being the most important of the four main Buddhist pilgrimage sites. Other holy bodhi trees with great significance in the history of Buddhism are the Anandabodhi Tree at Jetavana in Sravasti in North India and the Sri Maha Bodhi Tree in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. Both are also believed to have been propagated from the original Bodhi Tree.
