The Baoli behind the Hazarat Nizamuddin Dargah was restored several times and now in a very good condition. The entrance is a narrow sub-door in a larger door and the access toad is from the Subz Burj that is in the round-about outside the Humayun Tomb having a blue dome. The entrance is lined and crowded with beggars who almost block the entrance. ♿ Accessibility Features: No=Ramp access. Yes=A wheelchair-accessible Entrance. Yes=A wheelchair-accessible Restroom/Toilet. Yes=A wheelchair-accessible Seating. Yes=A wheelchair-accessible Parking.

Baolis were a sacred spaces and were always revered. There lies a stepwell in one of the most frequented dargah of Delhi, the dargah of Hazrat Nizamuddin. It is said that when Tughlaq (Ghiyas-Ud-Din) was building his palace (Tughlaqabad Fort), this baoli was being constructed the same time by the same labourers. They used to work at the baoli with the help of the lamps in the night. When Tughlaq got to know of this, he imposed heavy taxes on oil so that the lamps could not be lit causing the work at the baoli stop. But it is said that it was the miracle of Hazarat Nizamuddin that the lamps were lit with water and the baoli could be built. So the stepwell is considered very sacred. You still see pilgrims using the water which is not very clean though. To visit it, ask the locals nearby the dargah and they will be happy to help.
