Quite a calming place with a few waterfalls on the way to the cave and the giant one falling from above the cave! The path for trek might get a little slippery during heavy rains forming mud puddles (which I accidentally dipped my leg in?) but definitely a must visit place for all those out there seeking small adventures! P.s Avoid going on Sundays(crowded)

One of the best place to visit in monsoon. The trek is good, one will enjoy the path which is going from the forest. You will cross 3 fall before you will reach the caves. The beauty and peace is beyond explanation. Just keep you water bottles and something to eat as in monsoon you will not find any shop there.

The trekking up to the Kondana caves is a gentle and pleasant one amidst the beautiful natural surroundings and is ideally suited for any trekker to begin one’s journey as a new trekker. Kondana caves stands right up there amongst the best mountain caves in the whole of Maharashtra. Although the cave is open for visit for travelers and tourists throughout the year, June to December is the most conducive time for visiting these caves for the weather remains perfectly soothing compared to other times of the year thereby enabling the visitors to have a gem of a time travelling.

I visited Kondana caves while descending Rajmachi. The caves are huge. There are waterfalls all around the caves and the caves are maintained well. You get refreshments too. The carvings all around are amazing.

It's a wonderful place for a short trek and relaxation. It's located inside 15km from Karjat.once you reach the sign board for cave you can park your vehicle and then walk for 45 mins following the signs on trees to reach the top of caves. If you are planning to go I suggest go in every morning. And do not go after 4pm as it will be difficult to return back as the surface is uneven and slippery too. Even you can go for Rajmacho trek from same place but make sure you have a guide with you.

Awesome place to visit. Best time - Jun to Dec. it’s an hour journey from Panvel and the road is scenic one. Good picnic spot for family and friends. Restaurants and hotels are comparatively lesser so be mindful about food and water. There is small trek of 1 hour but it’s beautiful one you might find waterfalls on the way which are fun to enjoy

The Kondana Caves are located in the small village of Kondana, 33 km north of Lonavala and 16 km northwest of Karla Caves. This cave group has 16 Buddhist caves. The caves were excavated in first century B.C. The construction on wooden pattern is notable.[1] One can reach the cave by descending from Rajmachi village. About 14 km from the Karjat station, on Central Railway, and at the base of the old hill fort of Rajmachi, is the Kondane group of caves, first brought to notice in the 19th century by Vishnu Sastri, and soon after visited by Mr. Law, then collector of Thana. They are in the face of a steep scarp, and quite hidden from view by the thick forest in front of them. Water trickles down over the face of the rock above them during a considerable part even of the dry season, and has greatly injured them. So much so indeed that it is now difficult to determine whether they or the caves at Bhaja Caves are the earliest. They must be nearly, if not quite contemporary, and as they must have taken some time to excavate, their dates may overlap to some extent. The Vihara at Kondane certainly looks more modern, while the Chaitya, which is very similar in plan and dimensions to that at Bhaja, is so much ruined that it is impossible now to decide which may have been first completed.
