These minars are present at many places in India. This is a mark of Grand Trunk Highway..This highway begins from chiitagong in Bangladesh and ends in Kabul. It is one of the oldest higheay in Asia made around 2500 years ago to connect east India to the central Asia. These minars were constructed by the great ruler Sher Shah Suri as symbol of highway for the travellers in 1600s.

It was originally built as a landmark of distance on grand trunk road. Thats why it is called as Kos Minar. It is actually a circle between three roads. Small garden surrounding the kos minar and is nowadays being maintained. Families spend their time during evening hours. Looks beautiful at night.

This Kos Minars is situated Near Jasola Metro station on the ancient 'royal route and highway' populary known as the 'Grand Trunk Road' that has now been converted to National Highway No. 1. This is full of greenry means its is surrounded by green grass area. The Kos-minars, erected during reign of Mughal Emperor Jahangir are the earliest known examples of the 'road milestones' in the Indian History. In 1619 AD, Emperor Jahangir ordered Bakir Khan, the Fauzdar of Multan, to erect a minaret at every Kos (a distance of 2 miles and approximately 3.22 kms.) on the old imperial route. Kos-minars are plastered solid bricks structures standing on a square platform.
