The station has been named after Uttam Kumar, one of the most famous names of Indian Bengali Cinema. This station is at present the third largest station of the Kolkata Metro after Noapara and Kavi Subhash Metro stations !!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Tollygunge metro station known as mahanayak uttam kumar.Neat and clean same as the all metro stations.Staffs are cooperative.But at the checking entrance ,some time the security staffs are not present there.they should be more cautious.And another thing,at the subway..there are some unwanted things to be noticed..how would it be possible while there are some cc camera...

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This used to be one of the busiest metro stations in the city of joy before the pandemic. Now, even though the services have resumed, the crowd have significantly reduced.
This station is well maintained and there is enough seating arrangement for people, waiting for the train.
It may not have all the modern amenities like they have it at the new stations in the east-west metro corridor, but thanks to the separate platforms for up and down metro services, there is enough space for accommodate a large crowd.

With ample station amenities this station still serves as the terminal point during busy office time. From here, starts both the underground and the elevated stretch in opposite directions. This station serves Tollygunge region of South Kolkata along with Behala and is well connected through auto rickshaws and buses.
