★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Three main gates on the north, south and west are part of the fortifications of the Purana Qila, the sixth city of Delhi, built by Sher Shah Suri (1538–45). Sher Shah Suri raised his citadel after demolishing Dinpanah, the city built by Humayun. The fortifications of the Qila extended to a boundary of (2 km (1.2 mi)) on an irregularly oblong plan. Bastions adorned the corners and the western wall. Of the existing three gates, the west gate forms the entrance to the Qila and is called the Bara Darwaza (big gate). All three gates are double–storied structures built with red sandstone and have chhatris. The enclosure wall inside has cells in two–bay depth. The northern gate, built in 1543–44, is called the Talaqi-Darwaza for reasons unknown

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It is also known as the “Forbidden Gate” Talaqi Darwaza is the northern gate of the Purana Qila. Due to the folklore of how the subjects were not allowed to open the gate until the king returned victoriously, this gate has never thus been opened after the king passed through it. It is the third gate of the site, made up of red sandstones and the two bastil towers situated are of white marbles. The Talaqi Darwaza is two stories in height.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is part of Purana Qula - a beautiful old fort with ancient history, which ended up as the centre of the sixth city of Delhi. It is a beautiful space for picnicking, hanging out, or just escaping the noise and hustle and bustle of Delhi. There is a small lake just outside the fort where one can get paddle boats. This is a great place to come with family and / or chill. It can get quite busy on the weekend. Definitely one of the destinations to visit if you are in Delhi.
