It's blood bank was the pioneer in South Asia during Second world war. Various postgraduate healthcare courses are done here. Eminent scholars of our country are coming out of this institute.

Established during British colonial era with support from Rockerfeller foundation, this premier institute has a rich history with many national & international accolades. It used to be the first Blood bank of Asia which was operational during & after World war II (1942). It has been one of the pioneering institute in designing & implementation of many public health programs in India. Presently this institute has 2 campus- main (old) campus at Central avenue & new campus at Salt lake (JC block). Several postgraduate courses are offered- MD/MPH/DPH (MCI recognized) are few of them.
