Bhita Archaeological Site - Prayagraj

A visit to Bhita, a city in the Kushan period (50 AD - 200 AD) and the golden period of Indian history (Gupta period 319 AD - 550 AD), was a very enlightening and thrilling feeling. This place was a small urban place of merchants and artists. Excavated from 200 BC Coins from the time till 200 AD have been found. Most of the coins date back to the Kushan period. Seals (seals) and terracotta (paved clay idols) of the Gupta period have been found in large quantities. From this it is certain that the commercial corporation (modern market) was established here. The most important and surprising thing in Bhita is the establishment of a shop in a straight line. Me (Manishankar Patel) and my partner Nitish Patel (both friends from village- Dauna, Prayagraj) found a clay bowl at this site, which is of Kushan period or Gupta. It could be carpet. The size of the brick that our houses are made of today is 4 inches wide and 6 inches long, but do you know what the size of the brick was at that time? Its size was 2 feet long and 1.5 feet wide. Nitish believes that the city was connected to the Yamuna river through a canal that supplied it with water. The canal was made entirely of pucca bricks. After the water reached the city, it was distributed through taps and the dirty water was taken out through another pipe. The roads intersect each other at right angles. Many evidences were found from which it appears that the entire city was settled here. Only 5 percent of this site is in front of us, the rest is buried under the ground. It is a humble request to the Archaeological Department of India that our great Kushan and Preserve Bhita, the site of the Gupta emperors. Excavation of this entire site should be done. You will be very surprised and sad to know that 90 percent of this entire site is covered by acacia tree and our Archaeological Department of India, Government is not concerned about it.
