β β β β β On the outskirts of Mumbai, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, lies this green and airy tourist spot β Kanheri Caves. This serene cave complex is situated on a hillside and you can access it through steps cut into the rocks.
Kanheri Caves complex was built over a long time. It is a collection of 109 caves, with the earliest ones dating back to 1st century BCE. Those are relatively plain in comparison to the caves built later.

Covid-19 update on 20th Feb 2022- Open for public. Take BEST bus number 188 from Sanjay Gandhi National Park to reach here. SGNP entry fees INR 77 per adult. Caves entry fees INR 25 per adult.
Cycle can be rented from main of SGNP for INR 80 / 2hrs

β β β β β kanheri caves are a hidden gem in the heart of mumbai suburds (borivali), inside the sanjay gandhi national park area. These caves date back to 1CE and were seat of buddhist learning.
The caves were carved inside solid rocks. its a breathtaking historic monument with multiple caves and statues and scriptures. Do visit if u are a history buff. its also great for taking some cool instagram pix.
The entry is not expensive. but make sure u take the bus to reach the caves from the park entry, its a very long n steep walk, adviced not to take it.
Giving it 1 star less as it has scope for improvement. some lighting and cleaning can help.

β β β β β Great place to visit. Very neat and clean.
It is about 8 Kms from the Borivali entrance. If you're not taking a bicycle, you can take the BEST bus to reach here. Tickets just cost Rs 15 for Indian Nationals.
More than the caves, I enjoyed the view from the hilltop.

β β β β β Had being on a Sunday morning. The park opens for general public at 8.00am prior to that only the morning joggers who have the membership are allowed.Due to covid, boating, safari as well as toy train was closed.There are Best buses plying to the kanheri caves as well as couple of Omni vans.One can take rented bicycles outside the park as well as inside as private vehicles are not allowed and the parking charges are βΉ200/-(not at all recommended to hike the entire stretch as it will tire you unless and until you are a professional)there is an entry fee for the caves.as well as charges for photography. Toilet is clean however the sole cafeteria at the caves should be totally avoided as we had misal pav which was bland and not at all tasty.The entire caves area is well maintained and there are security personnel who are quite helpful and are stationed at every caves entrance. One can easily access each and every cave and the view from the top is scenric.Vist the place in the early half.Highly recommended and PLEASE DON'T LITTER and write on the walls.

β β β β β The Caves depict so much.. There are many caves to see. The ambience is great. The security staff are polite and helpful. If you like to see our history it's a great place to explore.

β β β β β Well maintained and clean the kanheri caves are a great place to visit. The carvings are amazing especially considering their age. Quite a hike to visit all the caves but worth it. The map could be a little more detailed though, it's a bit of an exploration.
