We only understand hazarduari palace if it is Murshidabad. But for me,(how I am mesmerized with this beauty) it is Katra Masjid. Built by Murshidkuli khan(by his name the place was named as Murshidabad) in 1723-24. Not only a masjid, it was a vegetable market(katra means market),along with a school with hostel. This building has no rods or pillars with no cement and has awsome underground ventilation. Most astonishing thing is, in the entrance, there is the tomb of Murshidkuli khan. Being a nawab of bengal, lying there, and people are walking over his tomb is quite shocking. It is said that in his late age, he realized his sins, and decided to take people blessing being underneath, so that some of sins could get forgiven.Though it is mosque, we can see terracotta bricks from bankura, with "banshi", "krishna", etc signs engraved. It is said that those are part of madir in bankura. Murshidkuli khan was in rage when he wasnot accepted by his actual bramhin parents, bcoz he became muslim. Thats why he destroyed some mandir. And when he realised abt his wrong doing, he brought those bricks to katra.

Built by the Mughal emperor Murshid Kuli Khan, Katra masjid is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Berhampore. It is an ASI managed site, with very interesting history.

One of the nicest place of Murshidabad. Historically it is an improtant place. First Nawab of Bengal Murshid Kuli Khan made this. He gave the responsibility to his trusted fellow to complete this mosque. However, that fellow was ultra religious and made this mosque with the remains of Hindu temples. Knowing this fact Nawab was not happy and felt that he did wrong on this. So he choose to make his grave below the entrance of the mosque so that every pilgrim touches his grave with their feet. Few parts inside got broken due to earthquake.

Historically relevant. Do hire a guide for more intrigue info about this place. Keep 1 hour to enjoy the architectural marvel of the place. It is said that no rods etc used for the construction and many bricks used for the construction are parts of razed temples.
