Madan Mahal fort, Am amazing place to strechen your nerves with varying steps, - an epic description of Gondvana architecture - situated at height from where almost the city & places could be seen clearly - a place so carved from sandstone in 1116 and still the structure is an inspiration to stand still for years to come. - was for Rajput Madan, Son of Rani Durgavati, later on converted and used as a watch tower to view and guard miles of landscape for Gondvana dynasty

Best tourist place to visit Madan Mahal is a suburban area of Jabalpur famous for the historical Durgavati fort.[1] The area also has a railway station named Madan Mahal. Situated atop a hill in Jabalpur city is a small but enchanting fort of the Rajgond rulers. It was more of a manned post on vigil for invaders now enveloped in shroud of history. The fort dates back to 11th century AD. The fort is well associated with Rani Durgavati the Gond Queen and her son Veer Narayan. Rani Durgavati eventually died fighting the mughals and is hailed as a martyr in Indian history. She also built numerous temples and tanks scattered around Jabalpur chiefly around her Garha principality.[2] The Rajgond rulers reigned over Jabalpur, Mandla and surrounding regions. Madan Mahal is one such fort built by them. Though not exactly an architectural marvel, the little fort is characterized by intrigue of ancient monuments in India.[3] The structure generates an aura of awe being compact and yet fully equipped for martial encounters. The stable, war rooms, small reservoir and main pleasure chamber of the rulers offer visitors much to see and admire.[4] The monument is situated at a height of about five hundred meters on the hill of same name. The Balancing Rock is a huge stone balanced on the tip of another. It is a geological wonder on the way to the fort. There are many myths floating about the fort of the Gonds. It is said to harbor gold bricks and Gond treasures hidden somewhere in it in accessible underground folds. A tunnel covering a long distance is said to be located somewhere around the precinct - a possible escape route and transportation artery of the Gonds.

Madan Mahal is situated on top of a huge granite hill. There are many buildings built in this palace complex, of which the main palace is situated on a huge boulder which is famous by the name of Madan Mahal. The eastern part of this palace is situated on a huge rock block and the western part is dependent on some small rock blocks. This palace is built by the combination of Chuna, Stone, Lakhori Even etc., which presents the culmination of Gond art. Ancient lime plaster is still visible on some parts of this palace. There are many natural reservoirs built in the vicinity of this palace, which demonstrate the foresight of the construction of this palace. Stables, battle room, stepwell etc. are located in the premises of the palace. The ancient main gate is built in the middle of the present stables, on both sides of which the remains and niches of the windows are visible even today. Remnants of Gond paintings are present in these niches. The stables were a two-storeyed building whose stairs opened into the interior of the palace complex. There are many fractal remains scattered in this palace complex which proves this . That there were many other relics in ancient times, which with time got destroyed. This palace was built by the Gond dynasty ruler Sangram Shah. This palace has also been related to Queen Durgavati and her son Veer Narayan. This palace was mainly used as a security post.

This fort is small, but at the same time enchanting and the way it is built is admirable. Important to mention is that you have to walk through the steps for about 200m and that in a sunny day could be harsh to you so take some water with you and stay hydrated. Finally view from the top of the fort is worth all of this, one can see the vale and the city totally amazing.

This place has become vacant and broken due to attack of Britishers still it's quite informative to see this fort..... It has built in tunnels that connect to ends of Jabalpur but yet the tunnels are closed for locals to see..... It's is surrounded by beauty of the jungles and a beautiful but dirty pond is even present here.✨
