★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Throne of Jahangir (Urdu: Takht-i-Jahangir) was built by Mughal emperor Jahangir (31 August 1569 – 28 October 1627) in 1602 and is located at the Diwan-i-Khas (hall of private audience) at the Red Fort in Agra.
The throne was built in 1605 in Allahabad and kept at the Allahabad Fort. Even after Jahangir became king when his father, emperor Akbar died in 1605, the throne remained there. It was only in 1610, that it was brought from Allahabad to Agra by Jahangir.
When the Army of the British East India Company first attacked the Agra Fort in 1803 under General Gerard Lake, a cannonball fired by the artillery struck the Takht, but did not manage to destroy it. It caused a superficial crack on one side and bounced on to make a hole through the wall opposite the throne

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Its made of Black Onyx?not marble...and hence almost priceless? I like the poetry in the thought...black onyx is the stone used in India by goldsmiths to judge whether the metal is gold or not. ..its called " kasauti ka patthar "...I like the idea that the emperor sits on it and is judging everything by the absolute gold standard...poetic justice

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Takht-i-Jahangir (Throne of Jahangir) is a
peculiar black stone slab resting on octagonal legs with ornamental Persian insriptions in praise of Jahangir on its sides.
This was made of Sang-i-Mahak or Kasauti in 1602 by Jehangir when he rebelled against his father Akbar.
Even though he became the king in 1605 after Akbar's death, the throne remained in the Allahabad Fort & was relocated only in 1610.
It is now in front of the Diwan-i-Khas hall, overlooking the Yamuna river.

It has been crafted from a single solid Black Marble. It looks like very heavy. It has broken from one side. It has been put in open sky.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A black onyx platform made of Kasauti patthar ( touchstone) which Jahangir had made much before he officially was proclaimed the emperor as a signal of defiance to his father. After he really became emperor, he had the inscriptions on the base of the platform carved to declare his legitimacy. Legend says it has stood at the same place from the time Jahangir used to be seated on it. Eden the British found it here and left it so.
