★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Hauz-i-Jahangiri is a monolithic circular bath basin placed in front of Jahangir Mahal.
Built in the year 1611 by Jahangir, it is also known as Jahangir's Bath.
Jahangir's Hauz is a mobile giant bath bowl, 5 ft high & 8 ft diameter, with steps outside & inside, made from a single block of porphyry, with persian inscriptions.
One of the inscriptions records the marriage of Jehangir to Nur Jehan in 1611.
Filled with rosewater, it would have been used by the emperor as a bathtub.
After it was discovered in the Akbar's Palace in1843, it was placed in front of the Diwan-i-am.
In 1862, it was shifted to Company Gardens, & later to the Jehangir Mahal

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Hauz-i-Jahangiri (Jahangir's Bath). The lithic bath basin is now seen in front of the entrance of the so-called Jahangiri Mahal. This circular bath bowl is carved out of a single block of granite.
The monolithic tank (hauz) is 1.22 m. deep, 2.4 m. in diameter and 7.62 m. in circumference at the rim which indicates that it was not buried into the ground and was mobile so that it could be transported and used in the camp as well as in the harem for bathing.
A Persian versified inscription in the Nasta'liq script was carved in relief which mentions 1611 as the year of its construction. The date coincides with the marriage of Jahangir with Nur Jahan Begam. Therefore, it is evidenced that it might have been presented to her as one of the marriage gifts.
This basin was discovered from the ruins of one of the courts of Akbars palace in Agra Fort in 1843 and placed in front of the Diwan-i-Am, from here it was removed to Public gardens (Company Gardens) where it suffered damages. John Marshall, then Director General of Archaeological Survey of India, brought it back to Agra Fort in 1907 and placed it where it is now located and most probably, gave the name Jahangiri Mahal because of the reference to Jahangir in its inscription though it is only a part of Akbars' Bengali Mahal.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This monolithic tank (hauz) was used for bathing. It is 5 feet high, 8 feet in diameter and 25 feet in circumference. On the external side of the rim there is an inscription in Persian which mentions it as 'Hauz-e-Jahangir'. It was first discovered near the courtyard of Akbar's palace. In A.D. 1843 and later it was placed in front of Diwan-e-Am. In 1862, it was shifted to public garden(Company Bagh) where it suffered much damage. Later, Sir John Marshall brought it back to Agra Fort and placed there. Due to this hauz, the palace became famous as Jahangiri Mahal though it is part of Akbar's Bengali mahal.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It is inside the Agra Fort. This portion is called khas mahal. It might be called palace of Mughal Emperor Jahangir, though emperor Akbar and Shahjahan also lived in here. In front of the place you can see the bathtub used by the Jahangir. Inside the palace, there is Sish Mahal (Mirror room) which was built by Shahjahan. There is a portion inside the palace where Shahjahan was kept in house arrest by Aurangzeb, the place from where Shahjahan looked at the Taj Mahal till his death. All the buildings has interesting works inside, outside, ceiling and on the wall. The area where Jahangir lived will simply make you speechless. You can also see the door of Somnath Temple, which is made of red sandalwood in here and can know the original story about that door. Though you can't touch the door as it is kept inside a huge room which is covered by glasses from two sides. It will be better to take a guide to see and know the whole palace.

Agra Fort is a beautifully built fort and has great historic significance. The place is well maintained and we had a great time here. The information boards providing the information about the history associated with the place were also very helpful in appreciating the place further.
The view of the Taj Mahal from the fort is also a very pleasant sight. The fort also conducts a light and sound show which is also a treat to watch.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Jehangir bath tub displayed outside the palace. Surely, this could have not been the original place of the bath - admeasuring 5ft height and 8ft diameter.
