Built as a military structure in 1565 by Emperor Akbar with later additions by Shah Jahan, the stunning Agra Fort (also known as Agra's Red Fort) is an interesting mix of both Hindu and Muslim influences. Located a little more than two kilometers from the Taj Mahal, the fort is entered through Amar Singh Gate with its low outer wall and dogleg design built to confuse attackers. Once inside, you'll see two large interlinked sandstone buildings, Akbari Mahal and Jahangiri Mahal, the largest private residence in the complex.

I had a great experience at Agra fort. Fort was well planned for tourist. Neat clean and with good facilities. We got a guide who rally explained us in details about the history of the fort. At the same time he helped us to clique good photos at the main points of the fort. Really had a very good experience. Majestic! Most popular attraction inside are the squirrels. Security do not allow food inside but you can secretly smuggle 2-3 peanuts and feed them, they just come running to you if you have food for them. Very cute, children will love it! hat an amazing place, the fort, lawns, architecture, stone carved artwork on pillars and gates, everything is pure delight. If are a history buff (who loves to know about history and culture this place transcends you into a different era) this place is an absolute treat. All you have to do is to feel it.

This magnificent gate made of red sandstone is southern gate of Agra Fort. Main entrance for the tourist today. One can see the high walls culminating into this gate.

The southern gateway or the Amar Singh Gate was originally known as 'Akbar Darwaza' and was reserved for Mughal emperor Akbar and his personal entourage. Shah Jehan renamed it after the brave Rao Amar Singh of Jodhpur. According to the interesting anecdote, Amar Singh slew Salabat Khan, the chief treasurer of Shah Jehan in front of the emperor. Then he leapt with his horse over the high walls of the fort. The horse died with the fatal jump and Amar Singh was arrested and put to death. However, his courage won the admiration of the emperor and the gate was renamed as Amar Singh Gate in his honor. A red sandstone statue of his horse was erected at the very spot where he died. Khamma Ghani ??❤️??

Main entrance to the Agra Fort for tourists is via the Amar Singh Gate. There is a small draw bridge which connects the entrance with the external pathway leading to the entrance. Earlier during the rule of the mughals, this gate was exclusively used by Akbar and his entourage. Shah Jehan renamed it after the brave Rao Amar Singh of Jodhpur. Amar Singh gate or Lahore gate as it’s known here is the main gate to enter the fort for tourists. There is another gate which is closed for public as it’s Indian military duty place. Nevertheless the beautiful journey of monument can be seen from here as someone’s heart is opened to visit. Once you enter the gate you will see the magical echo wall where you clap and see the magic of sound coming back to your ear ? this is a trick to fort people and maintain the military significance of ancient times as per the local stories told by people. Visit and enjoy your beautiful journey urself ❤️❤️
