Be watchful as this entrance immediately leads to 12-15 steps down at the bottom and at the end of which I entered a tunnel.The stepwell is round from outside but octagonal from inside and almost 4 stories. Each level has various paired staircases and there are arches all around.

An oldoctagonal baoli or step-well, situated on Farrukhnagar-Jhajjar road, near old gate of Farrukhnagar town was built by Ghaus Ali Shah during the period of 18th century, a local chief during the reign of Mughal emperor Farrukh Siyar. Built out of stone, lime plaster and bricks, this baoli wears some resemblance with the Turkish hammam. The water tank in the centre is surrounded by a verandah with well-framed arches on all sides. There are also chambers for relaxation and recreation on the upper storeys. A large Baoli stepwel, with stone staircases is considered a monument of importance and has been restored after it was taken over by ASI. #KrishnaVashisthaReviews #KrishnaVashistha

It's a beautiful place from inside however from outside it just looks like ruins which only is the reflection of poor maintenance and lack of appreciation of such artefact from the local admin and locals. There is local halwai next to baoli which also is really good. Bought some ghewar from him which turned out to be the one of the best ghewar I had in ages.

You will me amazed to see it. Very well maintained historical place. It's kept closed and locked. But a security guard is always present here who will give u the keys on request.

This is a mysterious stepwell that is not just enigmatic but also hidden in plain sight. I came across this ordinary and relatively small gate on the Gurugram-Jhajjar road in Farrukhnagar, 20 kilometers from Gurugram near Delhi. There was nothing special about this dilapidated gate except there is secret access from the left side of this gate that remains hidden from sight unless entering through this small iron gate. Be watchful as this entrance immediately leads to 12-15 steps down at the bottom of which I entered a tunnel. This tunnel is right below the gate in the previous photo. The other side of the tunnel opens out in a huge open Stepwell that is 2 stories above the road level and two stories below ground. The secret entrance of the Gol Bavdi is on the left side of the road, the entry tunnel is exactly below the gate and the Stepwell is on the right side. There is no other entrance or exit on the right side. The stepwell is round from outside but octagonal from inside and almost 4 story Each level has various paired staircases and there are arches all around. The staircases are both external from inside and internally made within the wall that leads to the top floor from where one can view the complete structure. The actual well is quite small as a regular well and is currently dried up. During the medieval ages, the overall construction provided a place for social gathering and a cool place to escape from the scorching heat in the summer. I traveled only 20 km on my bike from Gurugram o reach this place easily. Overall it was a joyful experience and a chance to marvel at the skill and evolved thought-process and practices of our ancestors. ♿ Accessibility Features: No=Ramp access.
