★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The last rites of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayeewill take place at 4 pm today at Rashtriya Smriti Sthal in Delhi, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah said today. The body of the BJP veteran has been kept at his official residence—6, A Krishna Menon Marg—for last respects. Shah said people can pay homage to the departed leader at his residence from 7.30 am to 8.30 am today. The body would then be taken to the BJP headquarters at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg at around 9 am, he told reporters outside the late leader’s residence. Vajpayee’s funeral procession would leave the BJP headquarters at 1 pm and the last rites would be performed at 4 pm,

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Facing the constraints of place for Memorials of VVIPs at the precinct of Yamuna River near Raj Ghat, the Government of India commissioned the construction of Rashtriya Smriti Sthal, in order to accommodate more memorials. It is the designated spot for the last rites of Presidents, Vice Presidents and Prime Ministers of India. Construction of the place was approved by Union Cabinet in the year 2013 which was completed in year 2015 and first one to get a samadhi was former PM PV Narsimha Rao, as per report of Financial Express. It houses many PMs, Presidents and Vice Presidents memorial. The place is well maintained and calm. Cleanliness is there. It is very enriching to come here and read about our leaders and pay homage to them. A must visit.
