কোনার্ক বাড়ির পূর্বদিকে যে মাটির বাড়িটি রয়েছে, তারই নাম ‘শ্যামলী’।
দিন রাত এক করে মাটির বাড়ি নির্মানের কাজে নিজেদের সঁপে দিয়েছেন সুরেন্দ্রনাথ আর নন্দলাল।কোন দিকে তাকানোর সময় নেই , কবিরও ভারী উৎসাহ - মনে আনন্দ নিয়ে লিখে ফেললেন -
আমার শেষ বেলাকার ঘরখানি
বানিয়ে রেখে যাব মাটিতে
তার নাম দেব শ্যামলী ।
ও যখন পড়বে ভেঙে
সে হবে ঘুমিয়ে পড়ার মতো ,
মাটির কোলে মিশবে মাটি ;
ভাঙা থামে নালিশ উঁচু করে
বিরোধ করবে না ধরণীর সঙ্গে ;
ফাটি দেয়ালের পাঁজর বের করে
তার মধ্যে বাঁধতে দেবে না
মৃত দিনের প্রেতের বাসা ।
অবশেষে ২৫ - শে বৈশাখের তিন দিন আগে বাড়ির কাজ সম্পূর্ণ হয় - স্থির হয় কবির জন্মদিনেই গৃহপ্রবেশ হবে ।
কবির ৭৪ তম জন্মোৎসব যথারীতি পালন হতে লাগল । এই দিন স্মরণে অমিয়চন্দ্রকে গদ্য কবিতায় একটি পত্র দেন - যেটা আমরা পাই শেষ সপ্তকের মধ্যে ( ৪৩ - সংখ্যক )- পঁচিশে বৈশাখ চলেছে / জন্মদিনের ধারাকে বহন করে / মৃত্যু দিনের দিকে । এই দীর্ঘ কবিতায় জীবনের অনেক অভিজ্ঞতা , বেদনা ,ক্ষয় , আঘাত , আশা আকাঙ্ক্ষার কথা প্রকাশ পেয়েছে ।
১৯৩৫ খ্রীষ্টাব্দে মে মাসে জন্মদিনের শুভক্ষণে শ্যামলীতে প্রবেশ করেন কবি। বাড়ির দেওয়াল মাটির, ছাদও মাটির। শিল্পী নন্দলাল ও রামকিঙ্করের তত্ত্বাবধানে গড়ে ওঠে বাড়িটি। কলাভবনের ছাত্রছাত্রীরা শ্যামলীর চারিদিকের দেওয়ালে মূর্তি (রিলিফ) গড়ে ভরিয়ে দেয়। প্রবেশ পথের দু’পাশে ‘সাঁওতাল-সাঁওতালনী’ রামকিঙ্কর বেজের তৈরি। এই বাড়িতে নানা সময়ে থেকেছেন বিশিষ্ট ব্যক্তিবর্গ।

74th birth anniversary of the poet began to be celebrated as usual. Poetry entered Shyamoli in the year 1935 on the occasion of birthday in May. The wall of the house, soil, roof, soil. The house was built under the supervision of artist Nandalal and Ramkindar. Students of Kalabhana filled the statue (Relief) on the walls of Shyamoli. The 'Santal-Santalani' on the side of the entrance is made of Ramkinkar Base. These people have been living at different times in the house.
