★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Stupa No. 3 was built during the time of the Shungas, who also built the railing around it as well as the staircase. The Relics of Sariputra and Mahamoggallana, the disciples of the Buddha are said to have been placed in Stupa No. 3, and relics boxes were excavated tending to confirm this.[33]
The reliefs on the railings are said to be slightly later than those of Stupa No. 2.[23]
The single torana gateway oriented to the south is not Shunga, and was built later under the Satavahanas, probably circa 50 BCE

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A small but beautiful Stupa (next to the grand Stupa no 1) that supposedly held the relics of one of Buddha's first disciples. It's in a good condition because it has been restored to a large extent by the British and ASI.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ High definition creative commons photography of the stuupa No. 3 Sanchi Madhya Pradesh. Satupa 3 is north east of the Great Stupa and similar design, through smaller with a single, rather fine gateway. It is bulit in 2nd century BC and once contained relics of two important disciples of the Buddha, Sariputtaa and Moggallana.
